. the california dmv handed out the first permit to put driverless cars on the road to google's waymo. >> it's the first for california. driverless cars with no one inside operating on roads and highways day and night. waymo is hoping to use this technology for shoutels and on demand -- shuttles and on demand rides. >> this is a big step forward for waymo and google. the permit does not allow transporting passengers, that requires a separate permit. people here could start seeing the self-driving cars as soon as tomorrow. >> it's a first for california, the dmv new permit gives way month -- waymo a green light.
